Basic principles of Bahá’í as summarized by Soghi Effendi Rabbani

“The Baha’i Faith recognizes the unity of God and of His Prophets, upholds the principle of an enfettered search after truth, condemns all forms of superstition and prejudice, teaches that the fundamental purpose of religion is to promote concord and harmony, that it must go hand-in-hand with science, and that it constitutes the sole and ultimate basis of a peaceful, an ordered and a progressive society. It inculcates the principle of equal opportunity, rights and privileges for both sexes, advocates compulsory education, abolishes extremes of poverty and wealth, exalts work performed in the spirit of service to the rank of worship, recommends the adoption of an auxiliary international language, and provides the necessary agencies for the establishment and safeguarding of a permanent and universal peace.”

-Soghi Effendi Rabbani as quoted in the Poetics Today article “‘I Am All Prophets’: The Poetics of Plusalism in the Baha’i Texts” by Cole Juan.

“Abdul Baha distinguishes between education which is material and that which is spiritual. Both are needful. Material education builds up the body of our material civilization. Spiritual education, however, is the only power which can bring to birth that divine civilization which is its light and soul. Upon this heavenly education must the religious teachers concentrate, for therein lies the hope of humanity.”

“Unlike the institutions and laws of other religious organizations which evolved after the lifetime of their founder, those of the Baha’i Faith were laid down specifically and explicitly by the founder himself, who appointed a successor to direct Baha’i efforts toward the eventual establishment of the highest Baha’i administrative unit, the Universal House of Justice (elected in Haida, Israel in 1963).”

“Baha’is accept all the major world religions as valid and authentic and as steps in the evolution of civilization.”

Bahá’ís have been the victims of much persecution in Iran.

The question was: “If you’re Bahá’í, what’s something you think it’s important for people who don’t know a lot about Bahá’í to hear?”
